Clash of Sovereigns: The War of the Austrian Succession 1740-48
December 1740: Young King Frederick II leads the army of upstart Prussia in a surprise invasion of Austrian Silesia. He hopes for an easy conquest of the rich province at a time when the Austrian Empire appears vulnerable following the death of Charles VI, King of Austria and Holy Roman Emperor. But despite internal opposition to the ‘Pragmatic Sanction’ that allowed a woman to inherit the throne, Austria’s new Queen, Maria Theresa, is cowed neither by Frederick, nor by France’s scheme to place a Bavarian puppet candidate on the throne of the Holy Roman Empire, nor by Spanish designs on Austria’s holdings in Italy. Amid these conflicting dynastic ambitions, Frederick’s local territorial coup proves to be only the opening act in a major European war that none of the great powers had anticipated - but all wished to profit from. It would ultimately span eight years and half the globe. Clash of Sovereigns (COS), GMT’s 2-4 player card-driven game of the War of the Austrian Succession, has been 9 years in the making. It is a free-wheeling, faster-playing, stream-lined “nephew” of the widely-regarded Clash of Monarchs (COM). A 12-hour campaign game and three shorter scenarios covering 2-3 years apiece that can be played to completion in as little as three hours! 2-4 players. The French, Prussians/Spanish (“Pr/Span”), Austrians, and British/ Piedmontese (“Br/Pied”) each have their own separate card decks divided into Early, Middle, and Late war periods Half a dozen minor powers add their own blood and diplomatic wrinkles to the tableau – and can sometimes reshape it utterly by switching sides. Leaders are rated for Initiative, Offense and Defense modifiers, and Action Points. Distinctive national tactics and troop quality factors are ‘captured’ by Army Battle Ratings (which evolve over time) and event and Battle Tactics cards. A simple, but significant, naval sub-game simulates naval operations in the Mediterranean and Atlantic, including the annual Bourbon Treasure Fleet’s risky voyage home. Colonial conflicts in Canada and India are simulated by event cards Design-for-Effect economic factors are “baked into” the event and reinforcement cards and can therefore be resolved in only a small fraction of the time required by COM’s more complex economic model.

How to play: To start the game, draw nine random Cloud Cards from the deck and place them face up in a 3x3 grid, known as “the Sky.” The Sky is shared by all players, and must always be filled as cards are taken. On each turn, players can choose from one of two options:Take a Cloud Card from the Sky. If you see something you love in the Sky, take the Cloud Card and add it to your own collection. Replace the card you took with a new card from the deck.Remove a row of Cloud Cards from the Sky. If you don’t love any of the Cloud Cards, you can discard an entire row in any direction, replacing it with three new cards from the deck to choose from. If you still don’t love any of the cards, your turn ends without adding a new card to your collection. If any card you’ve drawn from the deck is an Action Card, you must use it immediately, following its instructions before ending your turn. The first player to collect nine Cloud Cards is the winner! Now try spinning all nine cards into a story about how you’d love to spend one beautiful day packed full with things you love. (Bonus: Go out and do it!)

CloudAge
CloudAge is a strategy game from Alexander Pfister and Arno Steinwender. The award-winning authors have created a dark and dystopian world for 1 to 4 players. Fifteen years ago, the mysterious secret society "Cloud" set fire to countless oil production sites and burned down large forests to destabilize the world. The resulting environmental catastrophe had disastrous effects on the entire planet. Now, years later, you travel above the dried-out landscape in your airships, searching for a better life. You visit cities, send out drones to collect resources, and battle Cloud militia. An innovative sleeving mechanism makes a new, more immersive, form of resource gathering possible. Players try to predict which cloud-covered terrain will contain the desired amount of resources or where additional actions are possible. Resources allow players to develop useful upgrades for their airships or attract new crew members. CloudAge is a mix of engine-building, deck-building, and resource management. The campaign system makes it easy to start playing quickly, with new elements being introduced into the game as players progress through the chapters. While you play, you also experience and help guide the story. If you prefer, you can also play standalone story spin-offs as single scenarios.

Codenames
My personal favorite game, Codenames is a team based word game that puts 2 teams against each other in a race to guess all their secret words. Each team designates a player to be their clue giver, and that person can only give one word clues to their team about which word on the grid they need to guess. The game asks players to think critically, because if they guess the wrong word, it could end the game for them immediately. The game is perfect for experienced word game enjoyers, or a casual game night with friends. - Pat (Guild Service Representative) Codenames is an easy party game to solve puzzles. The game is divided into red and blue, each side has a team leader, the team leader's goal is to lead their team to the final victory. At the beginning of the game, there will be 25 cards on the table with different words. Each card has a corresponding position, representing different colors.Only the team leader can see the color of the card. The team leader should prompt according to the words, let his team members find out the cards of their corresponding colors, and find out all the cards of their own colors to win.

Codenames: Duet
Codenames Duet keeps the basic elements of Codenames — give one-word clues to try to get someone to identify your agents among those on the table — but now you're working together as a team to find all of your agents. (Why you don't already know who your agents are is a question that Congressional investigators will get on your back about later!) To set up play, lay out 25 word cards in a 5×5 grid. Place a key card in the holder so that each player sees one side of the card. Each player sees a 5×5 grid on the card, with nine of the squares colored green (representing your agents) and three squares colored black (representing assassins). Three of the nine squares on each side are also green on the other side, one assassin is black on both sides, one is green on the other side and the other is an innocent bystander on the other side. Collectively, you need to reveal all fifteen agents — without revealing an assassin — before time runs out in order to win the game. Either player can decide to give the first one-word clue to the other player, along with a number. Whoever receives the clue places a finger on a card to identify that agent. If correct, they can attempt to identify another one. If they identify a bystander, then their guessing time ends. If they identify an assassin, you both lose! Unlike regular Codenames, they can keep guessing as long as they keep identifying an agent each time; this is useful for going back to previous clues and finding ones they missed earlier. After the first clue is given, players alternate giving clues.

Codenames: Pictures
What are these strange symbols on the map? They are code for locations where spies must contact secret agents! Two rival spymasters know the agent in each location. They deliver coded messages telling their field operatives where to go for clandestine meetings. Operatives must be clever. A decoding mistake could lead to an unpleasant encounter with an enemy agent – or worse, with the assassin! Both teams race to contact all their agents, but only one team can win. Codenames: Pictures differs from the original Codenames in that the agents are no longer represented by a single word, but by an image that contains multiple elements.
$36.00
Codenames: XXL
Two rival spymasters know the secret identities of 25 agents. Their teammates know the agents only by their codenames — single-word labels like "disease", "Germany", and "carrot". Yes, carrot. It's a legitimate codename. Each spymaster wants their team to identify their agents first...without uncovering the assassin by mistake. In Codenames, two teams compete to see who can make contact with all of their agents first. Lay out 25 cards, each bearing a single word. The spymasters look at a card showing the identity of each card, then take turns clueing their teammates. A clue consists of a single word and a number, with the number suggesting how many cards in play have some association to the given clue word. The teammates then identify one agent they think is on their team; if they're correct, they can keep guessing up to the stated number of times; if the agent belongs to the opposing team or is an innocent bystander, the team's turn ends; and if they fingered the assassin, they lose the game. Spymasters continue giving clues until one team has identified all of their agents or the assassin has removed one team from play.

Codis Naturalis
You must continue the work of the monk Tybor Kwelein by assembling a manuscript that records the different species living in the nearby forests. Advance your manuscript by arranging the pages strategically, however you may need to sacrifice some species along the way. A turn is simple: play a card from your hand then draw another. The layering mechanic is where the strategy enters. When you play a card it must overlap the corner of one or more cards that are already in play. Each corner can contain symbols that represent different species or scoring bonuses, so as you build your tableau you may have to cover symbols in order to play a more important card. In order to purchase gold cards (which provide points) the indicated symbols must be visible in your play area. Game end is triggered once a player reaches 20 points. Finish the current round and let each player take one additional turn. Score points based on played gold cards and public and private scoring objectives. The player with the most points wins! ENGAGING CARD GAME: Dive into the world of Codis Naturalis, where players continue the legacy of Tybor Kwelein by assembling a manuscript of diverse forest species. BREW YOUR SUCCESS: Immerse yourself in the world of coffee-making as you race to fulfill orders and boost your rating. Buildings provide new capabilities, such as increased production, resource manipulation, and additional victory points. Compounded: The Peer-Reviewed Edition
Compounded is a game about building chemical compounds through careful management of elements, a fair bit of social play and trading, and just a bit of luck. In Compounded, players take on the roles of lab managers, hastily competing to complete the most compounds before they are completed by others — or destroyed in an explosion. Some compounds are flammable and will grow more and more volatile over time; take too long to gather the necessary elements for those compounds, and a lot of hard work will soon be scattered across the lab. Although Compounded does involve a fair share of press-your-luck tension and certainly some strategic planning, the most successful scientists will often be those who strike a good trade with their fellow lab mates. Players are able to freely trade elements, laboratory tools, and even favors — if there is truly honor among chemists! In the ten years since Compounded debuted, designer Darrell Louder and publisher Greater Than Games have developed and refined the design to streamline gameplay, increase player interaction, and include more real-world facts. Compounded: The Peer-Reviewed Edition is a game about scientists grappling for recognition on the edge of known chemistry and getting credit for their discoveries, all while competing for limited resources and striking deals with the competition to ensure their work gets done. Compounded: The Peer-Reviewed Edition features new compounds, new tool tiles and rules, revised lab fire interaction, redesigned lab benches, and more. Everything in this new build of Compounded has been tweaked in some way.

Concordia
Two thousand years ago, the Roman Empire ruled the lands around the Mediterranean Sea. With peace at the borders, harmony inside the provinces, uniform law, and a common currency, the economy thrived and gave rise to mighty Roman dynasties as they expanded throughout the numerous cities. Guide one of these dynasties and send colonists to the remote realms of the Empire; develop your trade network; and appease the ancient gods for their favor — all to gain the chance to emerge victorious! Concordia is a peaceful strategy game of economic development in Roman times for 2-5 players aged 13 and up. Instead of looking to the luck of dice or cards, players must rely on their strategic abilities. Be sure to watch your rivals to determine which goals they are pursuing and where you can outpace them! In the game, colonists are sent out from Rome to settle down in cities that produce bricks, food, tools, wine, and cloth. Each player starts with an identical set of playing cards and acquires more cards during the game. These cards serve two purposes: They allow a player to choose actions during the game. They are worth victory points (VPs) at the end of the game. Concordia is a strategy game that requires advance planning and consideration of your opponent's moves. Every game is different, not only because of the sequence of new cards on sale but also due to the modular layout of cities. (One side of the game board shows the entire Roman Empire with 30 cities for 3-5 players, while the other shows Roman Italy with 25 cities for 2-4 players.) When all cards have been sold or after the first player builds his 15th house, the game ends. The player with the most VPs from the gods (Jupiter, Saturnus, Mercurius, Minerva, Vesta, etc.) wins the game.

Concordia: Balearica / ltalia
Concordia: Balearica features the balearic islands of MAIORICA (Mallorca), MINORICA (Menorca), EBUSUS (Ibiza), and FRUMENTARIA (Formentera). Each player starts with two ships already at sea. There is no capital city to start from. Land colonists are built only later in the game, but can switch their position between the islands. As an extra, Concordia: Balearica comes with a fishmarket. The fishmarket may be combined not only with the new BALEARICA map, but also used as a variant together with the base game or any other CONCORDIA map. As a new commodity, fish replaces the ordinary bonus units you usually collect when playing your Prefect. The bonus is doubled up to 2 fish in provinces which have failed to produce in the last round. Sell your fish on a separate fishmarket, where you can get either goods, cash, or special actions in return. This way the fishmarket offers an extra layer of planning ahead, and new challenges for the experienced CONCORDIA player.
