Dark Ages is a historically-based civilization-building game that features an innovative action selection mechanism. As long as your action markers remain on the board, you may be able to gain secondary bonus actions whenever you or another player repeat the action. While Dark Ages features objectives commonly found in 4x games — encouraging you to explore nearby regions, expand your territory, exploit the resources, and exterminate your opponents — it does so featuring several euro-centric mechanisms. Collect resources from lands under your control, using them to build up your cities and fortifications. Some building types provide several ways for you to gain important in-game advantages, while others enhance your military strength or simply score you victory points. As you expand your territory, you will lay claim to noble titles, acquire new technologies, and train your military units. Each region and leader offer asymmetrical choices with their unique abilities. Dark Ages is actually two games: Western Europe (subtitled Heritage of Charlemagne) and Central Europe (subtitled Holy Roman Empire). While both versions feature identical gameplay, each focuses its attention on a specific part of europe during the dark ages (Western and Central, respectively). As a result, the game board maps differ between the two versions, as do the lands in which players vie for control over along with the flavor of the inhabitants and leaders of those lands. However, by combining both versions, you can enlarge the map into an epic battle for superiority for five or more players! Each game box is filled with finely sculpted miniatures of cities, fortresses, farms, and other buildings. The different types of troops — infantry, bowmen, and cavalry — are represented by unique miniatures. The solo mode for dark ages has been designed by dávid turczi.

    Empire's End

    4 in stock

You lead a grand civilization at the height of its influence, but can you save it from collapse? In Empire's End, 2-4 players compete to keep calamity at bay. Empire's End marries the intuitive and elegant mechanism of reverse-bidding with engine-building, long-term planning, and strategic depth. The result is a game with a quick tempo, abundant tension, and multiple challenging paths to victory. Players begin with a civilization at the height of its power. Play proceeds through a series of phases, varying as you progress through the game. During the Disaster phase, players face a common threat such as famine, a flood, or barbarians. The player who ends the bidding must take the disaster, which devastates one of their territories. With each disaster that befalls an empire, its people grow in wisdom and resilience. In the style of the modern classic game No Thanks, resources bid by all players will end up in the hands of the player who ultimately takes the disaster card. That player also gains a new ability, an innovation that reflects their empire's ability to adapt in the face of challenging times. Each turn, players move along a progress track that dictates whether they will face a disaster or another type of phase. Players can gain new resources during Production phases, rebuild lost territories during Industry phases, and challenge one another during Military phases. At the end of the progress track, the game is concluded and the winner is the civilization with the greatest number of victory points. Intact territories contribute points, but innovations and military successes can provide alternative ways to win.

  • Gamers Guild AZ Funforge Monumental: Core Box GTS

    Monumental: Core Box

    2 in stock

The fate of your civilization rests upon your shoulders! Monumental is a massive board game for 1 to 4 players (5 with the Lost Kingdoms expansion), where you will compete with your opponents to lead your prestigious civilization through the ages. The game starts at the Classic era (antiquity). Through the ages, you will have to assemble your military forces to conquer new territories, focus on scientific research to enhance your civilization’s abilities, build breathtaking wonders to harness their unique advantages, and develop your cultural policies to guide your people to victory. Each civilization has its own deck of cards, each with its own cultural specificities, as well as an army to explore and conquer the provinces on the board. Each turn, you’ll be able to draw and activate cards, combining their effects to develop your civilization and conquer the world. But you’re not alone in this race, as your opponents will try and outrun you as quickly as they can. A game of Monumental is played over different eras, each of them featuring new cards to acquire and use. At the very beginning of the game, you control a small remote city whose name gets lost in the wind. Yet by the end of the game, thanks to the many cards that you will acquire, all will admire your monumental city, the jewel of a glorious nation! As war is often inevitable, you’ll need to lead your troops to combat when necessary. Fight barbarians or protohistoric Free Cities to loot their resources, then wage war against your opponents! Each civilization comes with its finely sculpted set of units for you to deploy on a richly illustrated modular game board and to take control of the world. Suffice it to say that the cards that you will buy and activate in your city are the key to victory. You must find the proper balance between all different card types, as each of them will give you special advantages. Managing your deck and anticipating cards to come will also give you the upper hand over your opponents.  In Monumental, the main gaming mechanic is called CROSS-TAPPING. To activate your cards, you must pick a line and a column in your city, and activate (tap) cards from this line and column (5 cards out of 9). You may pick any line and any column. This innovative mechanic introduces a whole new way of planning and using the cards of your deck from turn to turn as optimization and combos are at the heart of the game.  Before the first turn, randomly draw 9 cards from your deck (out of 14 at the beginning of the game) and place them on the table in a square of 3x3 cards: this is your city. Over the course of the game, your city will evolve. You’ll start with basic buildings with limited interaction, but by the end of the game, your city will be full of advanced buildings, breathtaking wonders, and immense Knowledge. However, although your city is comprised of 9 cards, you may only activate 5 of them per turn. This will lead to difficult choices, as all cards can be useful. Your citizens cannot work all the time though, and you’ll need to allow them to rest. Deck building and cross-tapping are the basis of what makes Monumental a fun, innovative and infinitely replayable game!

    Monumental: Lost Kingdoms

Monumental is a next generation civilization game by Matthew Dunstan, packed with innovative mechanics taking the best of deckbuilding and 4X games. Raise your empire, develop deep knowledge and build majestic wonders while exploring and conquering the known world to emerge as the most dominant civilization of all time ! The "Lost Kingdoms" civilization box is the first expansion to Monumental, providing you with 4 new Civilizations to play as: the Aztecs, the Mughals, the Amazons and the Atlanteans (all completely compatible with the 5 Core civilizations and the African Empires civilizations) as well as more Terrain tiles including new terrain types (desert, jungle, islands, Aztec pyramids), and enabling an all-new 5 player mode! In Lost Kingdoms, each civilization comes with its own deck of cards including cultural policies, Knowledge and Buildings as well as new very specific Provinces per civilization: pyramids for the Aztecs, desert for the Mughals, jungle for the Amazons and islands for the Atlanteans. Of course, these new types of terrain could be used with or without their assigned Civilizations to enhance the look of the board and the creation of your maps. These civilizations, lost in time and legends, await their resurrection in Monumental: Lost Kingdoms!      - 5TH PLAYER ADDITION Lost Kingdom contains the rules and components needed to play 5-player games of Monumental. This feature becomes even more attractive when using the new Continuous Play Mode ! In order to play with 5 players, Lost Kingdoms provides: - New Province Tiles and a 5th Capital tile. - 5-player scenarios (maps) - A new Market: Carthago - Additional Free City Tokens As well as…    - NEW DEVELOPMENT CARDS These 12 new Development cards will greatly increase Monumental’s replayability: - Knowledge: Coinage; Astronomy; Animal Husbandry; Relativity; Flight - Wonders: Orichalc Walls of Atlantis; The Red Fort; Tenochtitlan; Panama Canal; Golden Gate Bridge - Buildings: Channels; Theater    - 6TH MARKET TOKEN: Lost Kingdoms adds one token for each existing Market, which will add more choices to the current pool when visiting a Market tile, in addition to the new Market Carthago, complete with its 6 tokens.    - NEW PROVINCE TILES There are four new types of Province tiles in Lost Kingdoms, each of which inspired by one of the new civilizations: - Aztec Pyramids: Whenever you conquer an Aztec Pyramid, you must pay 1 Gold in addition to any other resources you would normally pay. - Islands: Each Island tile shows two bridges connecting to 2 or 4 adjacent Province tiles, depending on which adjacent Provinces the bridges might point to. The only way to enter the Island is by bridge from one of these adjacent tiles. Provinces adjacent to an Island are considered to be Coastal provinces. - Deserts: After you conquer a Desert, you must return one conquering Soldier to your Capital tile. - Jungles: It costs 1 additional Military resource for Explorers to enter a Jungle. This additional cost must always be paid, even if the Explorer is moving for free as the result of another effect.    - NEW AUTOMA CARDS This expansion includes Automa cards which are adapted to the new civilizations, as well as some stronger cards for more experienced players!    - 4 NEW CIVILIZATIONS Altogether with the Core box civilizations, 9 Civilizations are now ready to fight for glory and dominance in Monumental against other players or in Solo mode! Lost Kingdoms brings 4 more civilizations to the game, each of them with their specific game mechanic alongside exclusive new Buildings, Knowledge, Cultural Policies and new Warlord effects. - Amazons The Amazons were known for their ability to utilize horses both in combat and everyday life - in Monumental, horses are a new resource represented by a new type of Token. The Amazons’ cultural policies also make use of horses in many different ways, from using Beasts of Burdento complete Wonders, to using Wall of Horses to make all provinces with horses in them even more expensive to conquer. - Mughals The Mughals excel at efficiency and city management, being able to quickly discard useless cards from their City in order to optimize access to their more powerful Buildings and Knowledge. This efficiency is also reflected in the special way the Mughals use their Cultural Policies. Unlike other civilizations, when the Mughals develop a new Cultural Policy, they don’t stack their Cultural Policies - they instead place each new Cultural Policy next to a row or column in their City. For the remaining part of the game, whenever that row/column of cards is activated, so is the associated policy, meaning that in the later portion of the game, you might end up having access to all five policies rather than just one, and thus being able to activate up to 2 per turn! - Atlantis The Atlanteans use Knowledge and Special Building cards differently from other Civilizations. Instead of being placed in their City deck, those cards are kept separate above their City, in a row known as the Nexus. At the start of every turn, when you cross-tap your 5 City cards, the leftmost card in the Nexus is also activated and moves towards the end of the row afterwards. Atlanteans policies align with this scientific focus, while their affinity to the sea echoes their inevitable demise. - Aztecs Human sacrifice played a central role in Aztec culture, and in Monumental this manifests in a new keyword: Sacrifice. Sacrificing allows you to gain powerful effects, but at the cost of your Soldiers: When you sacrifice a Soldier, that token (or figure) is removed from the map permanently and cannot be used to conquer or occupy Provinces. The Aztecs have access to Cultural Policies that play into this delicate cycle of sacrifice and recovery, life and death.

Tindaya is set at the dawn of the 15th century on the paradise known today as the Canary Islands. The conquistadors have just set eyes on it. Each player must lead an aboriginal tribe to survival in a world ruled by gods and shaped by natural disasters. Tindaya is a theme-driven survival adventure with the soul of a eurogame. This environmentally conscious game offers two play modes to please any group: Cooperative (including solo) & Competitive, in addition to the Traitor variant for players avid of some old fashioned throat-cutting. Difficulty can be graded, and less experienced gamers can learn to play through a 3 game mini-campaign. During 3 phases, natives will settle, progress, and battle invaders, all within a mythological setting ruled by two gods, Acoran & Moneiba. They will demand specific goods at each stage of the game. If the natives are unable or unwilling to provide them, their godly rage will be unleashed. But players are not alone; two seers will make predictions by reading the smoke of their bonfires. Tibiabin will see the disasters to come. Tamonante will predict where they will happen. Disaster markers will be placed on the board to signal what is to come. End of the Game: In Cooperative mode, players will check if their collective mission has been achieved. If so, the gods will be happy, and all natives win the game. In Competitive mode, solidarity points will be granted to players that have given more to the community, used fewer resources, or achieved both collective and personal objectives. The player with more points will win the game.
