  • Gamers Guild AZ City of the Living (Pre-Order) Gamers Guild AZ

    City of the Living

The zombies have taken over in City of the Living, a new edition of the game first released as Prosperity. We must rebuild, but amongst the masses of dead, our cities of the living must do it better than they did in the past. Hold off the zombies and build up your territory to be declared the best leader! ••• You're the leader of a great nation which is currently expanding. Over the course of the seven decades covered by the game, you will have to invest in infrastructures and industries, provide your country with energy and invest in advanced research in order to remain competitive — but prosperity has a price. You owe it to future generations to leave them a healthy world. Pollution lurks, but will you be able to limit it? Prosperity has players building up their countries on a grand but abstract scale, with them needing to balance concerns over energy and ecology with the constant need for capital and the long-term goal of prosperity points. The game starts with 24 tiles available, half on the energy side of the shared game board and half on the ecology side. Two tiles on each side are placed on levels 1-6, with the players each having two research markers energy and ecology that start at level 1. Each player has an individual game board with color-coded spaces for tiles, a pollution track, and tracks for energy and ecology. A stack of 36 tiles with tiles arranged by decades: the six from 2030 on the bottom, then the five from 2020, and so on to the five from 1970 is set up during the playing area. On a turn, a player draws the top tile from the stack, then everyone resolves the symbol highlighted on the tile: Energy for a positive value, earn money; for a negative value, lose money or increase your pollution Ecology remove or add discs to your pollution track Capital earn money for each capital symbol on the tiles you own Research advance one research marker one space for each research symbol on tiles you own Prosperity score points for each prosperity symbol on tiles you own, but only if your pollution isn't maxed out Once everyone has done this, the active player takes two actions, repeating an action if desired. The possible actions are: Take money. Remove one pollution marker. Move forward one space on one research track. Buy a tile, with the amount owed being based on whether the tile is energy or ecology and the level of your corresponding research marker. If you buy a tile of the same level, the cost is €100; if the tile is of a higher level, you pay €100, plus €100 for each level; and if the tile is lower, you pay a flat €50. Players have limited space for tiles on their individual boards, especially since the tiles and spaces are color-coded, but players can cover existing tiles, if desired, losing any benefits (or penalties) in the process. Some parts of the individual board are off-limits to new infrastructure until you first provide transport; toll roads, highways and even train systems have drawbacks of their own, but ideally you'll be able to build your way past those trouble spots without causing too much pollution. When the final tile is drawn, that player finishes his turn, then everyone scores: twice for their energy and ecology levels, one for capital (with money being converted into prosperity points), once for research on both tracks (with points for those researching the most), and once for prosperity. Whoever tallies the most prosperity points wins!

  • Gamers Guild AZ Capstone Games Stephens (Pre-Order) Capstone Games

    Stephens

After a massive earthquake in 1755 that tore down Lisbon and most of Portugal’s southern coast, it was necessary to rebuild an entire nation. The demand for window glass increased so much that William Stephens, a British businessman, saw the opportunity to expand his business in Portugal by investing in the glass industry. Utilizing his commercial skills and civic education, Stephens was able to nurture an unprecedented industry that provided medical care, education, and culture for the workers and their families. In Stephens, players compete amongst one another in the role of master glassmakers working at the now-famous Stephens Factory to become the most prestigious figure in town…after Stephens, of course. Through clever and cunning planning, all players will develop their works, invest in new businesses, and promote the creation of jobs. Through a unique action-selection mechanism, on their turn players choose from a variety of options, either by activating the Stephens factory or by activating one of their personal investments. The game ends when the Napoleonic forces arrive in town, at which time the player with the most prestige wins. Each turn you will choose a single action to perform a variety of options using a distinct action selection mechanism; you either: Take a single glassware from a factory on the game board and perform the corresponding action — OR — Take a single disk from your player board to assign a worker to a new profession and unlock a permanent ability for yourself. Includes a Solo mode that features 6 Scenarios and 5 unique Opponents to test your mettle.

  • Gamers Guild AZ Alley Cat Games Tinners Trail (Expanded Edition) (Pre-Order) GTS

    Tinners Trail (Expanded Edition)

In Tinners' Trail, set in 19th century Cornwall, you represent a mining conglomerate at the height of the tin and copper mining industry. You must buy plots of land across Cornwall in auctions and survey them for tin and copper, always managing your "work points" and money effectively. Once you have a mine in place, it's time to extract the ore and (ideally) make a profit, but the deeper your mine goes, the more expensive the process gets. To reduce the cost of mining, you can place developments, such as ports, train stations, and adits (drainage tunnels), but there's only so many improvements to go around. Once you have made your money — trying to time the market to sell when prices are high — you can invest it in industries outside of Cornwall, which gains you victory points. The earlier you invest, the better the return. Can you outplay the competition and make the most money, or will you be left without two shillings to rub together? This edition of Tinners' Trail differs from the original 2008 version in several ways. The player count, for example, is now 1-5 instead of 3-4, and the resources on the board are now set up via tiles instead of die rolls to maintain variability while reducing the randomness. Dual-use cards are now an important part of the game, giving you information before an auction or an extra boost after an auction.

  • Gamers Guild AZ Spielworxx Raising Chicago (Pre-Order) Capstone Games

    Raising Chicago

During the 19th century, the elevation of the Chicago area was just a few feet higher than the shoreline of Lake Michigan. For many years, there was little or no naturally occurring drainage from the city surface, and this lack of drainage caused unpleasant living conditions. Standing water harbored pathogens that caused numerous epidemics including typhoid fever and dysentery, culminating in the 1854 outbreak of cholera that killed six percent of the city's population. The crisis forced the city to take the drainage problem seriously. In 1856, engineer Ellis S. Chesbrough drafted a plan for the installation of a citywide sewerage system and submitted it to the city council, which adopted the plan. However, due to the minimal elevation above the lake, the sewer could not be built underground and had to be built at street level. The city council then decided to implement a radical idea: Prevented from digging down, they instead decreed the buildings of the city would be raised to allow the new sewer system to be hidden under the new street level. Representing one of the four companies that were created to tackle the problem of raising the buildings of Chicago, it's up to you to gather resources, take on the most attractive projects, and help solve the sanitation crisis of the city. On your turn in Raising Chicago, you place a tile on a resource slot associated with one of five building projects, then claim the resource you covered. After all players have placed tiles, each project is evaluated. The winning player pays resources to complete the project, claims the project reward, then places all of their tiles associated with that project as levels underneath the building onto a space on the board. Players earn points for placing buildings cleverly, doing the most work in a ward, and meeting the demands of council people. Only the most successful player will win, so play strategically to prove you can raise buildings the best in Raising Chicago!

  • Gamers Guild AZ Capstone Games Ragusa PHD

    Ragusa

Set in the legendary city of Ragusa (now Dubrovnik), Ragusa charges players with the task of building the city in the 15th century, constructing its great towers, boosting trade with the East, and finding their fortunes. Players build houses on the spaces between three hexes, gaining access to resources (on rural spaces) and actions (in the city), which means that a house effectively functions as a worker being placed, but triggering three spots at a time. Players use resources gained in the countryside to build buildings, trade, and craft valuable commodities — the value of which varies as ships come and go from the harbor. In the city, players gain access to actions, with each spot representing the three actions that surround it. This simple worker placement gives way to a deep engine-building mechanism as not only will building around production spaces utilize the houses you've already built in the countryside, but building near other player's houses will re-activate them, giving other players valuable opportunities outside of their turns. The game ends once players have placed all their houses. The player with the most points from all sources wins.

For Glory is a game of gladiatorial combat and Deck / Bag / Pool Building for 2 players. Players take on the role of gladiator school owners, or lanistas, in ancient Rome. The game utilizes a two-phase system for Deck / Bag / Pool Building and combat. During the Machinations Phase, players recruit gladiators, secure the support of influential patrons, increase their income, and train their gladiators in a multitude of tactics. When the crowd’s bloodlust becomes insatiable, the game shifts to the Arena Phase, during which players control their gladiators in various arenas to battle their opponents’ gladiators for glory. Each gladiator has a unique set of stats and a unique ability. Having the right synergies between gladiators often means the difference between death and glory. During arena battles, players also play tactic and reaction cards from their hand to support their gladiators, or turn the tides of battle. The first player to gain six glory by winning arena battles is the victor, and will be remembered for all time as the greatest lanista of Rome.

Shell Company: Don't Write Me Off

Welcome to the high-paced world of turtle dating! Your goal is to run the most successful turtle dating company, helping to romance turtles and sweep them right out of their shells. But you’re not the only one vying for their attention; you might find yourself at odds with a rival company as you attempt to woo these reptiles. You better make sure you have just the right gifts to make the best impression. If that doesn’t work, you could always donate the gifts and write off the expenses. After all, it’s not just about the love; it’s also about the money. Shell Company - Don’t Write Me Off is the first in a series of games Born at PAX®. What does “Born at PAX” mean? We at Lynnvander Studios teamed up with the PAX team to run a panel called Design a Board Game Live. Shell Company - Don’t Write Me Off was conceived by the crowd at PAX East 2022. They came up with the combination of turtle dating sim and tax evasion, and we refined their ideas into the board game you’re holding now! Shell Company is an auction-style bidding game with a touch of bluffing where players will need to manage their finances in order to acquire gifts. These gifts can either be used to romance potential clients, or they can be donated and used as a tax write-off. Both of these things are important because players are scored based on their weaker area.

    La Familia Hort

Granny Hortensia, owner of the lands of an eccentric farmer's family, dies one day without leaving a will. One night, the moon turns reddish, and the grandmother reappears as a ghost to put her four grandchildren to the test. She will visit them three times, always coinciding with the red moon. After her three appearances, whoever has become the most experienced farmer will inherit all her land. Money, water, and fertilizer management is the key to winning La Familia Hort, with your goal being to have the most experience points after Granny Hortensia's three visits. The game is played in rounds, and each round has five steps determined by the active round card: Market: crop, utensil, and animal tiles are drawn from the pile of the indicated type. Purchase: each player can successively buy one tile from the market. Fertilizer: each player receives a fertilizer counter from the bank to place it on their own crops or on the rivals' crops, depending on which round they are playing. Watering: players place one water counter per crop or animal tile. Available water varies depending on the weather each round. Sale: products are sold in exchange for coins and experience points. Crops that have been completely watered must be sold. The fertilizer is used to get the highest sales value in this step. The game goes on through rounds until the third red moon round card appears, and consequently, Granny Hortensia makes her third visit.

  • Gamers Guild AZ Upwind Games Fortune and Famine Bridge Distribution

    Fortune and Famine

Fortune & Famine is a strategy card game, set in a medieval fantasy. You play as the ruler of a kingdom, attempting to store more grain than everyone else. To do that, you will spend silver to bid on worker cards which produce unique goods for your kingdom. You will need to balance your silver and grain, and take some risks. The primary risk-reward comes in the form of FAMINE cards, which show up more and more as the game progresses. You can store as much of your grain as you wish for a single silver coin. This makes it beneficial to leave your grain growing as long as possible. But beware! When FAMINE strikes, you will lose half of it! Each ruler has a unique power. Rulers can be distributed randomly at the start or chosen by each player for the cost of less starting silver. If all else fails and you think an opposing ruler is running away with the game, you may be able to slow them with judiciously played evil wizard cards, although it will cost a precious spot in your kingdom!

    Die Macher

Die Macher is a game about seven sequential political races in different regions of Germany. Players are in charge of national political parties, and must manage limited resources to help their party to victory. The winning party will have the most victory points after all the regional elections. There are four different ways of scoring victory points. First, each regional election can supply one to eighty victory points, depending on the size of the region and how well your party does in it. Second, if a party wins a regional election and has some media influence in the region, then the party will receive some media-control victory points. Third, each party has a national party membership which will grow as the game progresses and this will supply a fair number of victory points. Lastly, parties score some victory points if their party platform matches the national opinions at the end of the game. The 1986 edition featured four parties from the old West Germany and supported 3-4 players. The 1997 edition supports up to five players in the re-united Germany and updated several features of the rules as well. The 2006 edition also supports up to five players and adds a shorter five-round variant and additional rules updates by the original designer.

    Pacific

We journey now to the Pacific Ocean. From California to Japan, the peaceful sea is ringed by rumbling mountains. Animals, some of them tourists, fill every conceivable niche; boats dot the waves; and businesses and industries thrive on the coasts. It is this world that you will exploit, or make friends with, or perhaps just pass through. Your goal in Pacific is to earn more money than anyone else, whether through fishing, hotels, factory work, or business. The game lasts ten rounds, and at the start of each round, each player reveals one card from their hand at the same time. Next, all players reveal which one of the revealed cards they want to use, then they simultaneously use their chosen card. Each player has their own playing board with five areas on it in a circle: Japan, California, Peru, Polynesia, and Coral Sea. To use a card, you carry out the text in the box, then "run" the 1-2 areas listed on it. Most cards have text like "[area]:[symbols]", such as "California: (hotel)" or "Each area: (fish)" or "An empty area: (boat)(boat)", so you'll place the appropriate token(s) in the named area(s). The card might have other text as well instructing you to move tokens, swap one token for another, "run" an area, etc. To "run" an area, you take an action with each token in it: hotels earn you money, boats earn you money based on fish in the area, fish move clockwise to the next area, and factories let you remove tokens for money. Special tokens have unique abilities, and you can carry out these actions in whatever order you wish. After ten turns, whoever has the most money wins.
