This weekend belongs to Sorcery and Neuroscape, with some Ancient World empire-building on the side.

TCG legend Liz Danforth is visiting North Phoenix for the Sorcery Cornerstone Championship, both stores are preparing to crown Neuroscape Sourcecode Showdown champions, and 7 Wonders Architects is giving players a chance to build a civilization instead of a deck.

Here is what is happening at Gamers Guild from August 14–16.

Meet TCG Legend Liz Danforth at the Sorcery Cornerstone Championship

As an artist, writer, and game designer, Liz Danforth has spent nearly five decades shaping the gaming industry. She began as a staff artist at Flying Buffalo in 1978. She later became one of the original artists for Magic: The Gathering, creating art for 36 cards, including Celestial Dawn, Hymn to Tourach and Bazaar of Wonders.

Her work now helps bring the hand-painted world of Sorcery: Contested Realm to life, and this Saturday, players will have the chance to meet her at our North Phoenix location.

The Sorcery Cornerstone Championship begins at 11 a.m. on August 15. Danforth created 40 signed and numbered City of Plenty playmats for the championship. Tickets that included one of the first 39 player playmats have sold out, with the final playmat reserved for the event judge. No-playmat tickets are still available, and those entrants receive a non-foil Den of Evil while supplies last.

The prizes only get bigger from there.

Details: North Phoenix, Saturday, August 15. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. and the tournament starts at 11 a.m. No-playmat entry is $20 plus tax.

Trade, Grade and Get Your Cards Signed

The championship is not the only reason Sorcery collectors should make the trip to North Phoenix.

Gamers Guild will have on-site live trading and card grading during the event. Sorcery cards featuring Danforth’s artwork will also be available to purchase.

Read more about Liz Danforth’s impact on Magic, Sorcery and the wider gaming industry before meeting her this Saturday.

Sourcecode Showdown: Two Stores, Two Champions

The fight for control of the digital underground is reaching both sides of the Valley.

Gamers Guild is hosting Neuroscape Sourcecode Showdown Store Championships at Tempe on Saturday and North Phoenix on Sunday. Both events are open to players of all skill levels and use a 1v1 Constructed, Best-of-Three format.

Every player receives a Neuroscape booster pack, a Jingle B.O.B., and their choice of an available promo while supplies last. The Top 8 earn Wonderland Foil RAM cards, while the top three finishers take home special placement-stamped Dèjá Vu prize cards. First place also gets a Neuroscape playmat, and all participants will be entered into a raffle for an OVERLOAD MK. II event-exclusive promo.

Details: Tempe, Saturday, August 15. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. and the Sourcecode Showdown starts at 11 a.m.

North Phoenix, Sunday, August 16. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. and the Sourcecode Showdown starts at 11 a.m.

Entry is $15 plus tax. Connect through the Neuroscape Play Network and see whether your Cyberdeck has what it takes to control the Sourcecode.

Build an Ancient Wonder

The 7 Wonders Architects Tournament challenges players to guide their civilizations to victory through construction, military strength, or scientific progress. Build your Wonder stage by stage, watch what your neighbors uncover, and decide whether the mystery card in the center is worth the risk. Just remember, if someone takes the Cat Pawn, they probably know something you don’t!

Details: North Phoenix, Saturday, August 15. Registration begins at 1 p.m., and the tournament starts at 1:30 p.m. Entry is $15, and attendance is capped at 18 players.

Choose your Wonder and start building.

Sneak Peek: Face the Dragon Lord Next Weekend

Something much larger is waiting for Warlord players on August 22.

The Warlord: Saga of the Storm Dragon Lord Challenge is bringing Dreq Qor-Teth to North Phoenix. Challengers who defeat the Dragon Lord with a Saga-legal deck can claim their own copy of Dreq Qor-Teth, while the tournament’s Top 4 earn the opportunity to face the Diabolus Ryden Overlord deck.

Details: The tournament begins at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 22. Entry is $5, but players do not have to enter the tournament to attempt the Dragon Lord Challenge.

Prepare your deck now. The Dragon Lord will be waiting.

Choose your battlefield, bring your best build and we will see you at Gamers Guild.
