Liz Danforth is one of the most influential people in the gaming world. As an artist, writer, and game designer, Danforth has developed a reputation as an incredible creator and true industry legend. She's been immersed in the gaming world since the 1970s and continues to impact its success today through her art for the trading card game Sorcery: Contested Realm.

Danforth got her start in the gaming industry at Flying Buffalo in 1978 as a staff artist. From there, she made a name for herself as one of the original artists for Magic: The Gathering, designing 36 cards from early sets. She's the creative mind behind cards like Celestial Dawn, Hymn to Tourach, and Bazaar of Wonders. Her bold and colorful art earned her a place in the Academy of Gaming Arts and Design's Hall of Fame at the 1995 Origins Awards.
Even after completing her master's degree in information and library science at the University of Arizona in 2008, Danforth made gaming a priority, participating in a million-dollar project funded by the American Library Association to study literacy-based gaming experiences.
Danforth's most recent work has been for Sorcery: Contested Realm, offering her artistic expertise to a new format. Digital art has become incredibly popular for trading card art due to its efficiency, but some TCGs endeavor to preserve the art that started it all. Sorcery is one such example, taking a stand against AI art and digital art in favor of physical designs. Sorcery cards are incredibly unique, as all of the art is completely hand-painted on canvas, then digitized. Danforth's work continues to contribute to this body of art, creating stunning pieces like Mirror Realm, The Seelie Court, and the Unseelie Court.

We're proud to announce that we'll be joined by Liz Danforth herself in North Phoenix at our Sorcery Cornerstone Championship on August 15th at 11 AM. Danforth will be bringing along some special gifts for championship participants, including 40 numbered City of Plenty playmats, all signed. Be sure to mark your calendars and join us in August to meet an artist whose impact on the TCG world has been felt for decades.
