Historical Games - Imagery Policy

To be clear: this policy is not accusing any community or community member of being a Nazi or sympathizing with hate groups when showcasing or utilizing game components showcasing hate symbols (swastikas, SS runes, or equivalent).

These symbols are not neutral artifacts of history. They are globally recognized emblems of hate, genocide, and ongoing trauma. The normalization of such imagery, even under the banner of "historical accuracy," is harmful in any context, especially in community spaces that strive to be inclusive and welcoming to all.

Gamers Guild is not an apolitical space. Our mission is to foster safe, inclusive, and joyful environments where all people, especially those from historically marginalized groups, can gather, game, and connect without fear or discomfort. This includes LGBTQ+ folks, people of color, Jewish and Romani community members, and others directly affected by the ideologies these symbols represent. We are not operating in a vacuum. We are operating in a cultural moment where fascism and hate are on the rise, and where spaces like ours must actively take a stand.

Accordingly, if Gamers Guild does choose to stock historical gaming products or host related events, those offerings will only be displayed or run under the following conditions:

• All products containing hate symbols (such as swastikas, SS runes, or equivalent) must have those symbols covered with non-see-through tape prior to display or use, and prior to entering the space.
  
  
• Event tables will feature clear, visible signage stating our policies and values, with QR codes leading to a full explanation of our expectations, acknowledging the sensitivity and potential issues around this game and it’s imagery, and that this is our solution to allow historical gaming while also making space for the imagery being offensive and harmful.
  
  
• Our community standards and Code of Conduct will be posted on our website and referenced during all relevant events.
  
  
• Organizers must ensure that participants follow these policies, and violations will result in removal from events and possible community sanctions.
  

Anybody is welcome to participate in our spaces and to propose events under these terms. However, you must be willing to understand the gravity of these issues.

If any player finds these expectations overly restrictive or if they make you feel unjustly labeled, we invite you to reflect on why that reaction exists. Criticism of hate symbols is not an attack on any particular player base, but is a boundary designed to protect our community.
