This summer, new releases and deals are on their way for the most sought-after wargames on the market, from Warhammer 40K and Trench Crusade to StarCraft and Moonstone. Check out all of this summer's hottest releases and which wargames we're most excited about.
Warhammer 40K: 11th Edition Reigns This Weekend
Armageddon has been unleashed at Gamers Guild, bringing 11th Edition to the battlefield at last. Last weekend, the official Core Rules book went up for pre-order as well, officially heralding the beginning of a new era of Warhammer 40K. New fans have the perfect opportunity to get into the hobby with the Armageddon Launch Box, while veteran players will appreciate updated rules and mechanics to help their games run more smoothly.
One of the most interesting things about 40K is the ability to tell your own stories on the battlefield, constructing original matchups and seeing how the battles play out. 11th Edition introduces the option to combine multiple detachments in a list, giving players more freedom to select units that suit their strategy. Moreover, your primary objectives will be based on your matchup, depending on each army's Force Dispositions, which are determined by each player's detachments.
Your primary objective, or primary mission, aligns with what your forces are trying to accomplish. And now, those objectives will be reflected on the battlefield as terrain! This release has a ton of minor changes from 10th Edition too, such as changes to hand-to-hand combat, how assault works, and stratagems. The strategies that worked in 10th Ed. will need to be overhauled this weekend when the official rules drop. The Core Rules drop on Games Workshop's website when the Launch Box does, but hardcover Core Rules books are also on the way!
We're also proud to stock Baron of Dice products to support your wargaming needs. With beautiful dice themed to any army you run, you're prepared to deal some wounds in style. Baron of Dice doesn't just support your 40K armies, though. Age of Sigmar factions, Marvel: Crisis Protocol alliances, Star Wars: Shatterpoint strike teams, and Star Wars: Legion armies can also all find their matching dice sets from Baron of Dice.
Trench Crusade Official Retail Models Inbound on July 29th
Official Trench Crusade models have finally arrived! The model-agnostic tabletop skirmisher set in the hellish depths of a post-apocalyptic World War I received its first round of official retail models already with the Prussian Struppen, Sniper Priests, and Prussian Stosstruppen Warband. But we haven't seen the last of Trench Crusade! A new release is just around the corner, and it's the biggest one yet.
Trench Crusade's Carcass Front Two-Player Starter box brings the game's first two narrative campaigns to the battlefield, complete with two complete warbands and a smattering of terrain pieces to decorate your warzone. The two warbands included are the Procession of Sacred Affliction and the Heretic Naval Riders, but those aren't your only two options when playing through the narrative campaigns.
The first narrative campaign is a two-player set of scenarios themed around the raising of Leviathan, while the second raises the stakes in a map-based campaign for two to eight players in pursuit of the resources and secrets of the Carcass Front. The rules of the game are free to begin with, but the 96-page Carcass Front book brings new and expanded rules to the table, giving players the definitive Trench Crusade experience.
Pre-orders are now open for the Carcass Front Two-Player Starter box as well as the Prussian Yeoman box, with both kits releasing on July 29th. In the meantime, the rules are available for free, and players are encouraged to 3D print models or use proxies for any armies they're interested in.
StarCraft: The Miniatures Game Arrives at Gamers Guild in Early August
StarCraft: The Miniatures Game launches this summer with a robust set of models to kickstart your StarCraft collection. Pre-orders are now available for the game's Zerg, Protoss, and Terran armies, including both a Two-Player Starter Set and individual Starter Sets for each army.
Any wargaming fan looking to get started with a new tabletop wargame will find a lot to love about StarCraft. The units are thoughtfully designed, both mechanically and physically, opening up a whole new galaxy of minis to paint. StarCraft fans will finally see official model renderings of their favorite characters, including Kerrigan, Jim Raynor, and Artanis.
The Starter Sets are a great place to begin, with everything you need to get started included in the box. Prepare for interstellar war with all the powerful units you need to explore the Koprulu sector! Get your pre-orders in now to receive your reinforcements upon release.
Staff Pick: Unleash Mr. Toodles' Might in Moonstone
Meet Moonstone, our graphic designer's new favorite fantasy skirmisher for two to four players. Embark on a journey into the mystical world of Tauber and enlist the aid of fantastical creatures to achieve your goals. Each faction has its own objectives, but at the heart of each lies the coveted moonstones, mysterious and valuable artifacts only found beneath the light of the moon.
It's incredibly easy to get started playing Moonstone. Moonstone uses small warbands called Troupes ranging from four models for a beginner game to six models for a full game. Just grab a couple boxes of your chosen faction and start skirmishing. You can even grab a two-player starter set, like Dusk till Dawn or Life & Death Struggle.
The Commonwealth is composed of nobility and stands as the largest faction in Tauber. Opposing them is the True Dominion, a faction built on sneaky tactics and typal synergies focusing on goblins and faeries. The Leshavult worship Tauber's nature deity, Leshavit. This faction is known to keep to themselves, harnessing the ability to summon beasts and spirits. Finally, the Shades are an odd faction made up of monsters and beings set on regaining control of Tauber after 500 years spent trapped beneath their fallen city.
