Pride Month is here, and with it comes a whole spectrum of games to spotlight, from TTRPGs to board games. We built a collection of games that tell queer stories or are made by queer creators. Read on to discover why we love these games that truly show charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent.
Wingspan, designed by Elizabeth Hargrave, is a great game for bird enthusiasts. Discover and attract birds to your wildlife preserve by collecting and spending food tokens. Build your birding engine and watch it take flight! She also developed Wyrmspan, a similar game with dragons, and Finspan, which offers a fish theme! Multiple expansions for Wingspan have released, adding birds from Europe, Oceania, Asia, and the Americas.
Nikki Valens is an incredibly prolific game designer who's the great mind behind some of your favorite games. Eldritch Horror, Arkham Horror, and Mansions of Madness all belong to their collection, along with Artisans of Splendent Vale. Their work has truly changed the landscape of Lovecraftian horror games.
Curses and Covens was designed by Samara Jethwa, a queer game designer from Australia. This game is especially unique, as an all-versus-one card game where you play as witches attempting to elude the town witch hunter. The witch hunter wins by capturing witches, while the witches attempt to silently bluff to keep the witch hunter from finding the witches. With incredible art and enticing gameplay, Curses and Covens is definitely a new staple for any collection.
Jay Dragon designed Wanderhome and Sleepaway, two incredible TTRPGs to introduce to your groups. Wanderhome is a GM-less pastoral fantasy RPG where you play as a traveling group of animal-folk making the world of Hæth a kinder place. In Sleepaway, players step into the role of queer summer camp counselors at a camp made for misfit kids. Fight back against the Lindworm, a supernatural force that terrorizes the camp, while protecting the kids at the camp.
Molly House, designed by Jo Kelly, pays homage to queer history, as you take on the role of Mollies in eighteenth century London. Explore the molly houses where queer men could freely express themselves in a time when deviance was considered criminal. In the game, you'll throw grand parties, mingle with other queer folks, and embrace queer joy.
Thirsty Sword Lesbians is the go-to TTRPG if you're looking to tell a queer story. Designed by April Kit Walsh, this new TTRPG system offers a variety of character archetypes to choose from, each with stats in Daring, Grace, Heart, Wit, and Spirit. Together, your characters will move through your GM's story, acquiring Strings that allow you to influence other characters. Games using the Thirsty Sword Lesbians system are heartfelt and bold, with a touch of flirtation.
Gamers Guild is committed to inclusivity year-round. We don't want to just spotlight queer success during Pride Month, we want to shed light on their work throughout every month. Moreover, we're dedicated to creating a safe space for anyone to play with us. As part of our Code of Conduct, our Mission Statement is "to provide a safe, inclusive, and fun gaming space for EVERYONE, specifically (due to it frequently not being) families, LGBTQ+, persons of color, and women."
All are welcome, whether you're participating in a tournament or just hanging out at the store. No matter your background, you have a place here.
