Heroscape's meta is flooded with Gelryie. These low-cost, versatile swimmers are the perfect addition to your aquatic army, especially paired with Krakenlings or even Ewashia, Master of Tides. But the best units aren't all underwater. Queen Maladrix the Conqueror and her bugs are also infesting the meta with a variety of pairings at her disposal.
With Alliance War on the way, now is the perfect time to optimize your armies in preparation for the tournament. Read on to learn more about how these units are taking Heroscape by storm.
The Gelryie Vanguards are a recent common squad addition. They allow you to move each Fierce and Unfathomable figure you control up to one space for each Order Marker on the Gelryie Vanguards at the start of each round. On top of free movement, they have water advantages. They're swimmers, so they can move through water with ease and even add 2 to their Defense Value when in water or defending from a figure with height advantage.
These little water-winged guys are a great matchup for Ewashia, Master of Tides, who also swims and adds 1 Defense Value when on a water space. She can also create 3 more water spaces per game, making water easy to traverse for her aquatic allies and more difficult for her enemies. On top of that, she has a Twister Special Attack and the ability to give her Small or Medium Beast allies an extra turn.
Krakenlings are also a great matchup that come in the box with the Gelryie Vanguards. These tentacled monsters swim and can warp from space to space rather than moving normally, but if they do move normally, they can switch spaces with adjacent single-space figures. To top it all off, they can attack up to 3 times on their turns. Together, these three units are a force of fierce units to be reckoned with.
Queen Maladrix the Conqueror is a pretty common unit to encounter on the battlefield currently. She's a heavy hitter who lets your Festering Honor Guard take a turn before her. She also makes an additional normal attack each turn.
But the thing that makes her truly special is her ability to infect her opponents. After she takes her turn, she can roll a D20. If it's a 9 or higher, she can put a destroyed Festering Honor Guard on an adjacent enemy Unique Hero's Army Card. For the rest of the game, that Hero rolls a D20 at the end of every round, and if it's a 17 or higher, that Hero is destroyed. The Festering Honor Guard takes that Hero's space.
Typically, she's run with ranged units to help protect her and whittle down the enemy ranks until she's able to close in and take them down. Knight Primus Adelbern and the Ordo Borealis are awesome options, mobilizing harpoon cannons to achieve their ends. Another option is to add Greatbow Archers. Both the Greatbow Archers and the Ordo Borealis benefit from not moving. The Greatbow Archers get a buff to their Attack Value, while the Ordo Borealis gain additional range.
All in all, the Heroscape meta has some incredible additions ready to be added to your army.
