Hi everyone, it’s Eden again. You guys seemed to really like my Superb Owl recommendations, so I’m back with some more for Valentine’s Day! I put together a quick four-step guide to giving your sweetheart a special Valentine’s Day, so be sure to Take Time to put together a celebration they won’t forget.
Buy Them Flowers
La Fleur is one of my favorite games from Dux Somnium and the absolute perfect game to kick off your Valentine’s Day. Set in the world of Botany, you play as a French Rococo garden enthusiast on a quest to build the most beautiful château. Entice garden visitors to your home and even romance them to get them to stay! Gain enough prestige and you’ll be crowned the Host of the Grande Soirée!
Floristry is an amazing two-player option where you’ll compete to have the most charming flower store. You and your opponent will engage in auctions for flower tiles to make your storefront more beautiful. Earn points from the six different flower types and see who comes out on top!
Wine and Dine Them
What’s date night without wine and cheese? In Vicitulture and Formaggio, you’ll work to establish your own vineyards and cheesemaking creameries in Italy. Both are worker-placement strategy games where you’ll develop your enterprise throughout the different stages of development. For Viticulture, you manage the various tasks each season of the year requires, while in Formaggio, you’ll keep track of the cheeses you make and age, adding mini-games such as wine pairings and cheese distribution. If you’re looking for a more full-bodied experience, you can add Formaggio as an expansion to Fromage.
Laugh Together
The Couples Game and Horrible Couple are the perfect games to get giggly with your partner. In The Couples Game, you’re looking to sync up with your partner. You’ll get a goofy question like “What would our celebrity couple name be?” and try to write down the same answer as your beloved on your whiteboards. Horrible Couple lets you work together or go head-to-head to create the funniest three-panel comics about relationships.
Write Your Own Love Story
Star-Crossed is a lovely little two-person roleplaying game about forbidden love. You’ll create characters that are attracted to one another but can’t be together. Together, you’ll build tension and excitement as attraction between your characters grows. The most fun mechanic is that Star-Crossed uses Jenga blocks to determine whether your characters act on their feelings. If the tower falls, you fall for each other harder.
Thirsty Sword Lesbians is a love letter to the queer community. This roleplaying game places narrative at the forefront, using Daring, Grace, Heart, Wit, and Spirit as your stats. It’s a super flexible system that you can use for a variety of stories and scenarios, with character archetypes that each face their own emotional conflicts. If you love games with heart and angsty lesbians, this is definitely the game for you.
In Love Letter, you’re trying to romance the kingdom’s princess by competing to have your love letter to her delivered. It’s a quick and replayable game of wit and deception that also gives you the opportunity to ensure your love letter to your sweetheart is delivered.
