Update / Transparency Around Children In Store

  • , by Ben Blythe

We've gotten a handful of complaints over the last few weeks from members about unsupervised kids in the play space; running around, touching other people's games, that kind of thing. Nothing major, but enough that we built an internal policy for our staff so we have a consistent way to handle it when it comes up.

We want to be really clear up front. Children are welcome at Gamers Guild. Always have been, always will be. A lot of you bring your kids in to share something you love with them, and that's exactly the kind of community we want to be. This isn't about kids being kids. It's about supervision.

The new policy lives under the Spirit of the Code section of our Code of Conduct, so nothing is technically changing in the rules. It's more of an awareness update so everyone is on the same page. The short version is that a responsible adult needs to be actively present with their kids, not just in the building. If a child is running through the space, climbing on tables, or touching other members' games, our staff will find the parent or guardian and ask them to redirect. If the behavior continues, we'll ask the family to leave for the night. That's it. No bans, no drama, just a way to keep the play space functional for everyone.

If you've ever been on the receiving end of a disrupted game and wondered whether we were going to do anything about it, this is us doing something about it. And if you bring your kids in regularly and you've never had an issue, you're going to keep having no issues. Thanks for helping us keep this place what it is.
