The Frozen Shore Bear Riders unit box for the A Song of Ice and Fire: Tabletop Miniatures Game gives Free Folk commanders one of the hardiest cavalry units ever fielded in battle. While being kicked by a destrier might be a worry, it doesn’t hold a candle to being mauled by a bear while its rider stabs at you with their spear. Among the most powerful Skinchangers beyond the Wall, Varamyr Sixskins commands a huge snow bear, three wolves, a shadowcat, and an eagle simultaneously. In battle he rides astride his great snowbear, commanding his various beasts in coordinated attacks. Nothing escapes his eagle’s gaze, nor his shadowcat’s patient stalking. Any that approach his person face a savage mauling. One may defeat the individual creatures, but Varamyr will find more. To face an ordinary skinchanger is to square off against a skilled combatant with their creature’s strength backing them up. To face Sixskins, one faces an entire unit unto themselves.

The Free Folk are a conglomerate group, consisting of many different northern tribes. Though they don’t all share the same ideologies or faiths, they do all have a shared goal: making a name and home for themselves in the southern parts of Westeros. Skinchangers have the rare ability to project their consciousness into nearby creatures, altering their behavior. This can be used simply, perhaps having them perform tricks. But it can also be used in combat. It’s bad enough when an enemy unit is advancing on your position. It’s worse when that unit is flanked by giant wolves or bears. The Skinchangers unit box for the A Song of Ice and Fire: Tabletop Miniatures Game gives Free Folk commanders a new option for their armies. The Skinchanger Unit Attachment can be placed in any unit, ignoring usual Unit Attachment rules (so they can join a unit with another attachment already in it). When being added, the player can also add their animal unit to the table. When the Skinchanger’s unit activates, the accompanying animal can activate immediately afterward, creating perfect “one-two punch” combinations. Just be sure that the two are never further than Long Range from one-another, or the Skinchanger is killed. Either situation will cause the animal to also be destroyed.

The Free Folk are often framed as simple savages by those that live further south. In many instances, that evaluation is wrong. While the Free Folk don’t harbor the trapping of much of civilization, they are not simply savages. The Cave Dwellers, though… they are simply savages. The Cave Dweller Savages Unit Box gives Free Folk commanders a new option on the battlefield. While the unit is armed simply with scavenged weapons they’ve found along the way to the battle, and are clothed in not much more than ratty old skins, they are still fearsome on the field, wading into combat with wild abandon. Unfortunately for the enemies of the Free Folk, these War Mammoths are very much real, and they are coming south with the rest of the Free Folk forces. The War Mammoths unit box for the A Song of Ice and Fire: Tabletop Miniatures Game gives Free Folk players massive new figures that they can add to their forces. The Free Folk are already known for their unconventional units, and the War Mammoths are no different. Their huge bulk makes them tough to take down and Free Folk commanders can target their destruction, letting them rampage all across enemy units. Just be careful, a spooked Mammoth in the middle of a battle line can be dangerous to both sides of the fight.

Those that live south of the Wall think that the Wildings living beyond it are nothing but primitive savages, not capable of utilizing any kind of advanced engineering in combat. That is, however, very much not the case. While their Frozen Shore Chariots aren’t the sturdiest of constructs, they work well enough to usher those bold enough to ride them into battle. More than capable of bashing their way through enemy ranks due to sheer mass and speed alone, these engines of war are a formidable foe to face.
